Hatching Eggs and the Connected Curriculum The demand on teachers to deliver increasingly ‘all singing and dancing’ lessons can be overwhelming.  Having hatching eggs as part of a topic can be a real winner.  The opportunities for learning that develop from actually observing chicks emerge from an egg, observing behaviour and caring for chicks, are endless. Life cycles Maths (time, handling data, weight) Growth, Change, similarities, differences Speaking/listening Reading Writing Expressive art. There are valuable learning opportunities for all Key Stages. How can we Help? We can provide all you need to hatch eggs successfully.  We can also provide lesson plans for Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and suggest follow up activities that may help you deliver successful and exciting lessons. Why use our eggs? Eggs need incubating for 21 days before any chicks hatch.  The first couple of weeks is critical to the success and health of the chicks.  To minimise the risk of a poor hatch, we provide you with eggs that have already been incubated and checked for viability.  Put simply; We deliver your eggs on a Monday, They hatch on the Wednesday, We collect your chicks on the Friday or the following week as you wish. We can only offer this service locally as outlined on the map, as live pre incubated eggs have short life outside the incubator and require careful transportation.  Future Welfare of the Chicks As all our eggs are Pure Bred birds from Show stock, they have a value to those in the fancy for exhibiting and breeding and for pets.  So all the chicks returned to us are grown on and sold off at various ages.  Schools are welcome to see the back end of our operation if the chicks future welfare is in question.
